Press release – Botanical brewer Lowlander presents a worldwide first: a Nature Positive gin. Lowlander Gin is naturally delicious and better for the planet too, as its production would substantially emit less atmospheric carbon than a typical gin. What’s more, for every bottle sold Lowlander compensates twice as much atmospheric CO2 as is being emitted. Lastly, as members of 1% For the Planet, Lowlander Gin actively contributes towards restoring biodiversity. The result? An exceptionally flavoursome, low-impact gin distilled with juniper, lime and cardamom leaves, spruce, rosemary and lemon. Bright and fresh, bursting with citrus and herbs and Nature Positive. Lowlander Gin is available from April at Gall & Gall, the Lowlander webshop and selected bars and restaurants.
WORKING WITH NATURE – NOT AGAINST IT
Frederik Kampman, Chief Botanical Officer at Lowlander has a deep respect for nature: “At Lowlander we brew with botanicals, inspired by the world of distilling. Over the course of the last six years, we’ve been able to create a wide range of refreshing beers brewed with spices, herbs and fruit. In order to keep doing so, we are very much aware that we have to take less from our planet, and give back instead. That’s why we have the ambition to become fully Nature Positive by 2030. Starting this year, all our beers contribute to 1% For The Planet, which means we donate 1% of our proceeds to support a range of nature causes close to our heart. Now we’re taking it one step further by introducing the world’s first Nature Positive gin. Produced in the Netherlands – the homeland of gin – and in harmony with our planet.”
DISTILLED WITH LOCAL BOTANICALS & LOCAL INGENUITY
Lowlander Gin is made with fresh (not dried), local and circular botanicals from zero-waste urban vertical farms, along with rescued, recycled and revived ingredients. The lime and cardamom leaves are cuttings from Koppert Cress’ innovative greenhouse horticulture, producing plant ingredients for chefs. The spruce needles come from discarded Christmas trees. The rosemary comes from the zero-waste vertical farm Growy Amsterdam and the citrus peels are residual flows rescued from bars and restaurants in collaboration with PeelPioneers.
CARBON FOOTPRINT & BEYOND
These circular botanicals are distilled in organic wheat alcohol and finally bottled in an innovative cardboard bottle, made from 94% recycled material. The lightweight bottle itself is 100% recyclable and has a carbon footprint six times lower than a glass bottle. Besides, for every 1KG of CO2 emitted, Lowlander removes 2KG of atmospheric CO2 in return through donations to Trees for All. As partners of this non-profit organization, Lowlander supports planting trees to enrich Bolivian Lowlands to sequester the same again and compensate twice as much as is being emitted, as well as planting native trees in Het Groene Woud, Brabant to improve local biodiversity.
PERFECT SERVE
For a well-balanced and fresh flavour experience, pour one part Lowlander Gin and four parts tonic into a Lowlander glass that you have filled to the brim with ice cubes. Add a slice of lemon and a sprig of rosemary and enjoy. Cheers!
