Celebrate nature. Responsibly.

We brew with botanicals - or herbs, spices and fruit - to create naturally delicious drinks. And we want to make sure that we’re doing this in a way that takes responsibility for the natural world today and for generations to come.

That’s why step-by-step we’re taking action to do less harm as a business, and to give back to nature as we grow. We want to show that together we can create impact, just by doing what we love doing – drinking beer.

  • PROUD TO BE CARBON NEUTRAL

We became carbon neutral in 2022 - a very proud milestone - achieved through calculating our emissions with Carbon Architecture and offsetting with Trees For All. It’s a big step on our journey towards becoming a business that takes responsibility for the natural world around us.

But we’re not complacent. This is just a step, and there’s still a lot to improve. Being responsible is a journey, one that takes us to a place where we can give back to nature more than we take.

  • 1% FOR THE PLANET

As members of 1% for the Planet, we give 1% of everything we sell to environmental causes.

We do this because the scale of the climate and nature crises is vast, yet globally only 3% of philanthropic giving goes to the environment. The non-profit 1% for the Planet is on a mission to change this by bringing investment and approved doers together, to accelerate environmental giving.

It’s a global movement built on the premise that we can do more together than we can alone. To date, 1% for the Planet members have invested over $435 million in environmental non-profit solutions through the global network.

  • Instead of endlessly taking from our planet, we choose to use fewer materials and generate less waste whenever we can. Reducing what we need, and in parallel recycling or reusing what’s been taken before. Like repurposing leftover orange peels from bars and restaurants, and brewing with spruce needles from discarded Christmas trees.

  • As the climate and biodiversity crises intensify, the need for funding of ingenious solutions becomes more urgent too. We want to help restore the planet to health, and as members of 1% for the Planet give back to nature-based causes close to our hearts. That way we get to support a range of initiatives that fight climate change, protect biodiversity, and protect wildlife.

Trees for all

As members of 1% for the Planet, we donate 1% of sales to Trees for All, supporting sustainable forestry projects in the Lowlands and abroad for a healthier climate. At this moment, our CO2 emissions are compensated by this forestry project in Bolivia, helping to restore forest and promoting sustainable land use and better socio-economic conditions.

Project orange elephant

How do you stop a hungry elephant? With an orange – they don’t like citrus. While enjoying our 0.3% I.P.A. you support Project Orange Elephant helping purchase more orange plants for farmers in rural Sri Lanka. These orange plants prevent elephants from raiding farms and reduce the chance of conflict between farmers and elephants.

WWF

A sea turtle can’t tell the difference between a floating plastic bag and a jellyfish, its natural diet. That’s why the WWF wants to clean up the oceans. So do we, and you can help too. By having a Tropical Ale or 0.3% Tropical Ale you contribute to stop the plastic pollution in nature. This makes it doubly refreshing, doesn’t it?

SEAGRASS RECOVERY PROJECT

When we discovered seagrass is such a powerful ally against climate change – capturing carbon 35 times faster than a tropical rainforest – we made a commitment to support the Dutch Seagrass Restoration Project in the Wadden Sea. For every can of Cool Earth Lager we sell, we’re adding a plant to the seagrass meadow in the Wadden Sea.

AMAZOONICO

AmaZOOnico is dedicated to caring for wild animals who were victims of illegal trafficking, rehabilitate them, and reintroduce them back into their natural habitats is definitely worth it. An organisation that perfectly matches the backstory of our IPA monkey: long ago, monkeys were accepted as payment of bar debts in Amsterdam, so now they're making a comeback. From our 1% for the Planet donation, we're supporting AmaZOOnico to help with their Spider Monkey project. After years of rehabilitation, they have just released a young group of Spider Monkeys in their Amazonian home. Let's raise a toast to freeing the monkeys in many ways!
